It's supposedly a derivative. Case design doesn't really matter too much when it comes to their designations (L, G, W, R series transmissions each have variations that look quite different)
There's also been transmission shops that have torn both of them down and noticed the similarities.
Regardless, the AZ6 we have isn't the same as the other AZ6's out there anyway as it's also heavily modified.
