Since there has not been one official Toyota statement nor concept shown on these mini 86s in the two years since the drive "article" was written I don't think I would hold my breath waiting.

Yeah, it's old news and I've talk with Tada-san that they're planning to release smaller/lower ver... but that was early '12.
Good thing you're not hold your breath.
BUT I do love to see this thing comes to production
