This is probably the thing that angers me most driving in the PNW - legally the beds on trucks like that need to be covered with some sort of tarp. I see maybe one covered for every twenty I see carrying all manner of gravel piled high above the border of the container, larger rocks like that one that nearly got you, etc., and it is never enforced - I've seen a cop pass right by a truck just like that one.
Aside from the clear property damage caused by that crap, can you imagine if a rock that size hit a motorcyclist, or a windshield? Man I'm getting all angered just typing about it; glad you were able to dodge it, and nice catch on the dash cam.
I haven't had a stone thrown at my car, but about a year ago when I merged onto a freeway a truck in front of me was showering my car, and the entire highway with bloody chicken feathers (I have no idea why someone would carry something like this, and completely open to the wind to pick up (especially at freeway speeds), etc, which was a little traumatizing as I couldn't get away from them for awhile. The guy had to have seen what was going on in his mirrors, but he clearly didn't give a **** about it, and kept on speeding away with a red and white flurry trailing all over the freeway behind him.
