Thanks for the input Guys. I ordered a 17" spare for a 2004 STI.

I will get a tire once I confirm fitment of the wheel.

Just a little info on spares:

Tire ********** Size ******* Diameter ****** % from stock spare

Stock spare **** 135/80/16 *** 622.4

Stock wheel is**** 215/45/17 *** 625.3 ***** .05%

Optional tire size**** 225/45/17 *** 634.3 ***** 1.9%

Optional Spare **** 125/80/17 *** 631.8 ****** % from optional spare

Stock wheel **** 215/45/17 *** 625.5 ***** 1%

Optional tire size **** 225/45/17 *** 634.30 ***** .04%

So in the end the optional spare is closer in diameter to the optional tires(225's which I run in the summer) that the stock spare is to the stock wheel.

In any case I agree that running any spare on the back for very long would not be a good idea, but the optional spare is still closer in diameter to the the 225 than the stock spare is to the 225 (1% vs 1.9%).
