Keep an eye out for the newest MotorTrend. Haven't found it electronically/online yet, but the July '12 issue has a "Cheap Thrills" comparo between the GTI, Mustang, Genesis, Miata, FR-S, and BRZ.
I'll let you guess which two took the top two spots...
