If you actually want to do any real off roading, you want lots of sidewall. That way when you air down, your tires really mold around the rocks for better grip. My LC came with 16's and I ran 285/75 for a long time on a 2" lift. Looked really good. Now I'm running 315/75 on 4" lift.

I hear ya. This is my wife's. It's a pavement pounder. It will rarely see off road. I've had 2 Chevy trucks in the past with 9" lifts and 39.5" Mickey thompsons's. I don't plan on doing any real off roading with this expensive of a vehicle. I'm just going for a more aggressive look
