Stuck - Koni Shocks & TRD Spring install issue

Disclaimer - I've never installed my own coilovers and or springs/struts/shocks etc. First attempt here! Help would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily driver and I work 8:30 - 6 pm monday thru fridays and currently have no car (tomorrows gonna be "one of those mondays")

I attempted to install my koni shocks and TRD springs and I hit a dead end. I haven't touched the rears yet.

I began with the fronts - successfully removed the front struts & springs and then I started putting in the koni's & TRD. As you can see in the pics below, once I hooked everything up, I was about to put on the wheels and I realized that the struts are still moving freely...If I put the wheel on, the weight of the wheel just pulls entire strut down...clearly I've missed something lol.

Here's the video I used as a guide for installing in addition to the instructions that came with the shocks and springs (the koni shock instructions are pretty useless for newbies like me).

How come the strut doesn't go through the hole above it into the engine bay? I used a jack to lift the strut up, which compressed the springs and sent the top of the strut into the engine bay...i figured that was a step in the right direction, but, how do I get the spring to stay compressed???
