This thread is meh.

It's good that Scion is offering cheap cars with good power(after turbo), however it still urks me that they focus on sound systems, roomy interiors and soft ride before anything that actually helps the car around a track. If at all. I am aware they offer 6 speeds and the tc is relatively low weight for a coupe in this age, but a "base" car doesn't qualify as a sports car. It's the same thing as the turbo'd civics you've seen on youtube . . . yea after throwing loads of money into them they become quick. But that's not what they were designed to do. And that's what it seems like when noticing that theres such a small fan base for performance-oriented tc owners. This car isn't a sports car. It was never designed to be one.

FT86 on the other hand is (bear with me) a revival of the celica, in a way. With pure automotive performance in mind, as was the celica's intention. Light weight, RWD, balanced, LSD, turbo, etc. That doesn't sound like a Scion tc. It sounds like a celica/supra. I don't want the FT-86 to be stripped so everyone can have fun (a la tc), with soft suspension, nice stereo and an engine tuned for fuel economy. I'd rather have the beast together when I drive it off the lot. And retain the warranty as well.

This car just altogether fits in Toyota's lineup. 1. midrange pricing, 2. fills the need for a real coupe, 3. fills the need for the performance oriented car that toyota used to have. Scion is meant to offer creative, inspiring models that visually appeal to teens and are cost effective. Most teens aren't into performance(at least, not on the track).
