So for anyone who is interested:
My scion 10 dash panel quit working as I stated above. Today the dealer had a go at fixing it, and they believe it is the dash panel itself that is faulty. The controller that is located under the center console right below the little rectangle void where everybody adds their Yospeed plates, is sending signals to the light up display. They had to open a tech case with Toyota to authorize replacement of the dash panel because it is $1100 to replace. That is right, $1100. So if yours isn't working, I recommend having the dealer repair it. I felt stupid for taking it in, but we paid a premium for the 10 series goodies- they need to work. I will say that all of the components look like they were put together at a local type audio/interior/window tint/specialty automotive lighting/wheel kind of outfit. The controller unit is assembled on a board with obviously hand soldered components, in one of those snap close plastic boxes you buy at former radio shack. I hope the vendor sourced to make these stands good on them, or we may enjoy a very limited lifespan on some of our 10 goodies. Once Toyota ok's the order of replacement part, they will quickly replace it. I'll keep you posted for those interested.
