It will never cease to amaze me how fragile folks think manual trannys are! Over the years I have heaped every kind of abuse imaginable on a long series of gearboxes. The only one I ever managed to hurt was a '39 Ford box hooked to a '57 Chev small block. That was a box designed to handle about 80 HP, and the engine I had it hooked to was putting out about 250. And it still lasted almost 2 years! (and that was when I was 16-17 years old...I was kinda hard on cars back then!
)
BTW, I almost always have my hand on the shifter. What harm do you think that might cause?
