It's not that expensive if you do it yourself. Some of the Jeep guys do that with their trail rigs. It costs a couple hundred bucks, tops. Since you don't have to bake it or sand it, there's no reason to take it to a shop for that.
You guys laugh, and it does look stupid... But that guy doesn't have to worry about chips and dents from road debris.
