Hmmmm. Don't get me started. The short story : NOT YET.
So last week, word had it from you and another person was that Scion wasn't releasing theirs till the 28th - I called and had verified with my dealership to see if that was true. Also, 2 weeks back, I noticed on the NW Roll call list that mine was the only one that was on the 20th, a date which I was already dubious about since that landed on a Sunday. I didn't get to the call when they returned it but they did leave a voice mail to tell me that "I don't know who you talked to, but our SCION rep still maintains a delivery date of the 18th. You should be getting yours within days of that since it all depends on the delivery driver and your car is marked "HOT" since it's the first to be pre-sold at our dealership."
I had previously given up a spot for a 6MT Suby 12 days ago as I told the SCION dealer that since they've been working with me to get this ASAP, I'll do the right thing instead of just dropping them and going with the Suby.
BIG Mistake!
So when this last weekend rolled around - I was asking for updates, and they had none to give me other than "It's in Portland" where I assume it's been for weeks - and couldn't get me a FIRM ETA. I mean which dealer doesn't have a manifest or knows when they're getting a delivery and what they're getting up to the day of the delivery? Do dealers just get random customer's cars and then call up the customer and say, "Hey, your car is here." I seriously doubt that to be the case.
You'd think for the FR-S / BRZ, everyone would be all over it. Maybe not, and apparently not that this dealership - even though they told me that they're the TOP SCION dealership in this state, a claim that I highly doubted based on the activities that I saw while dealing with them.
Then I call today, talked to the New Car Manager and he tells me that SCION switched it up on him, and that it won't be available till the 28th or 29th and that this information was only given to him on WED (16th) last week. Yet, when I asked him why when I called on Thrus thru Sat to get updates, the sales person had no idea of this?! He told me he hasn't spoken to my sales person as of yet. That's 6 day old information with 3 working days for him to convey that information...
Apparently, even if your office is 20 feet from the said salesperson, it's near impossible in the 8 hour workday to see or get word to them that a pre-ordered car has purportedly changed delivery dates. That single glass door must be really hard to get thru to... I verified that the deposit is 100% refundable and requested them to call me if and when it does come in.
You'd think that this was a pretty simple deal - no haggling, no financing. I even took a pic of the cashiers check I made @ BoA in full on Friday for the dealership to show them I was ready - and yet, they couldn't even do the right thing by letting me know that it wasn't coming in time, even though they knew very well that getting the car before this coming Memorial Day weekend was my key conditional reason.
A few Suby dealerships are pretty sympathetic - and one of them is actively working to get me a 6MT. I told them that if I can get one (Black or White) on or before the 29th, I'm cashing them out as long as they don't mark up beyond MSRP.
It's sad to see that even in this day and age, even NEW car dealers can't be counted on and trusted. I mean I'm not stupid and all the signs were there for me to not believe them (like shipments clearing ports in 2 days, delivery on Sunday, "TOP SCION DEALER") but I took their word for it. I suppose I might have had this one coming...
