What kind of shims are needed exactly with stock diff?
Stock diff has two sets of shims. One set look like thin flat washers and multiple shims can be stacked to adjust the depth of the pinion gear in and out of the diff. The second set are two thick shims that adjust the differential/ring gear backlash (side to side). The total thickness of these two shims remain constant. So if you take .002 off one, you add it to the other. So if you are modding your stock diff, you can use a mic to measure what you have as a base for what shims you will need in the future. These shims are about $8 each, so I ordered them 2 at a time till I got a set I was happy with.

Hope that helps.
