Then if you go this route you will want a supercharger, not a turbocharger, as superchargers eliminate lag (the lag in a turbocharger is caused by it being powered by exhaust gases, while a supercharger is powered by the crankshaft).

As far as reliability, well, that all depends on the quality of the installation and how much you want to pump up the boost. A relatively modest bump should not have a large impact on reliability. if you start trying to get 400HP out of your engine though, you are going to have to start looking at other internals.
