My point is that this was never a car designed to press a button and a thing happens. It works the driver as much as you work the car. And that is very rewarding, IMO. You get a fantastic man and machine sensation when you time that gear drop to the right gear where you are in the fat part of the powerband and slingshot around the car you are passing. You feel the kick in the pants, the exhaust starts singing, and you direct the car to the opposite lane to overtake. It is such a pleasant experience because there is such a clear "correct" way to do it.
Cars like the 2015 WRX, FoST, GTI don't really inspire you to work for it because things can be so automatic (and often you find yourself passing slowly because you thought the torque would be there and it wasn't because you were lugging the engine.... My 2007 GTI taught me that several times). That "manual process" theme carries over to the handling on the twins. The stability control is pretty lenient. The car needs attention else you might end up with a banged up bumper -- 25 degree temps on summer tires taught me this painful lesson. There isn't auto braking of certain wheels to help the car rotate like the GTI, WRX, and FoST. To give more midrange, they'd have skimmed from the top end, IMO. I don't think that would have fit with the intentions of the car.

Trust me I know. The car is a lot of fun to wring out and drive hard:

^this was after owning the car for 4 months. 3rd event. Only had coilovers, LCAs, and a muffler delete. Stock power. Still loads of fun.
While the extra power is not necessary, sometimes it's just nice knowing you have that little extra to use if you choose to. I don't think we need a 350hp fire breathing BRZ sti. But having something come from subaru with maybe an extra 20 or 30 and a bit of weight reduction with an improved chassis/steering and brakes would be an awesome car.
