Obviously would NEVER recommend it if you can afford new rubber, but I rode with a sizable chunk of my sidewall missing and used quality rubber cement to fill the hole. Before the cement you could see threads or whatever the sidewall structure is.
Held up for 5k miles and just recently replaced it... because of a nail. lol
