It's easy. You take all the money that went in to the development of the GT86, and subtract it from the development costs of the LFA.
FRS: 22mil
LFA: 89mil
Now, you subtract it and you're at 67mil - Now remove the carbon fiber crap from the entire vehicle, and you're left with just the engine building\construction costs. LFA engine is roughly 90k a pop.
So if you've stuck with me here, now we have:
Development costs of the new hybrid-LFA\FRS currently @ 67m
No more development of the carbon fibre monocoque - No more front suspension, steering, or interior costs, and no sheet metal costs. That free's up another 61m. Only thing we're keeping from the LFA is the motor and the neat gauges.
So now we're down to 6m total development cost for this new hybrid. Which is essentially stuffing an LFA motor in the tiny hole where the Boxer motor was before.
Now, for Toyota to turn a profit, they need to build and sell 600,000 LFA-engine'd, GT86's for 10k a pop.
So there you have it. Second gen FR-S getting LFA engine, 10k OTD cost.
