I doubt that it is your pads. I drove 3 track days and 15000 miles on the stock pads.

Does the grinding go away after a little? In this case its just bc the rotors began to rust (I see you live in NY to) and your basically cleaning them with the pads. Don't worry about it.

If the grinding doesn't go away, check them out. Pull off the wheel and you should be able to see how thick the pad is. Maybe you have a defective caliper or maybe you just need pads. You never know with cars.

BTW. Don't downshift to save the brakes. A clutch is much more expensive than brakes.
