While the RS may have a more sophisticated AWD system and a better power to weight ratio than the Golf R, it won't have the same level of German solidity or well-oiled ride quality (even though it will in fact be made in Germany), nor will it have anything close to the R's interior refinement. It's going to be $1-2k less than the R to be market competitive, so about $38-39k in Canada. However initial demand could be very high, so ADMs may be common for the first 6 months to a year.

It may be more of a driver's car than the R in the end - several reviewers have found the R hyper-competent but lacking in grin-on-the-face involvement. Jim Kenzie (a leading auto journo up here) talked to several test drivers who participated in a comparative test of the RS prototype vs. Evo/Sti/R and the word is the thing's fantastic.
