I agree 100% with you that the guy is probably wrong given everything we know about the way these cars were designed, spec'd and built.
Nobody really knows he could be totally correct in that something is different, he wouldn't be the first Toyobaru with blown OEM shocks, only found two but there is definitely more and I'm lazy. (yes I skipped the guys that changed the suspension)
