The automatic has a different set of gears that give it longer legs, at freeway speeds it turns lower rpms and results in a ~7 seconds 0-60 mph time vs. the ~6 seconds for the manual.

Edit: I would in no way use this as fodder for deciding, drive both, sleep on it, buy whichever one you think will make you happy. I've driven mine in some of the worst traffic in the nation on some of the worst inclines in the nation (SF and LA). The MT has never been a barrier for me, but I totally understand someone not wanting to live with it on a daily basis.
