I am quick to disparage the xD as an ugly, metro-centric, econ-box, but I don't see how someone turning them into rally cars makes the brand "pointless." These are purpose built rally cars. Duplessis knows a thing or two about rallying and building rally cars, so he obviously thinks the car will be competitive in its class. Would I want one? Nope... I'd rather do this, just because I like the look of the exterior more.
I'm sure you will write all sorts of glowing/awesome things about the R2/O'neil/Ford effort, while bashing 0-60/Scion's, but the fact remains: Both the xD and the Fiesta are purpose built for rallying and neither exclusively uses OEM/OTS parts. Though these xDs are more "off the showroom floor" than this Fiesta.

The R2 fiesta, is done right. the 0-60 xD, pure poser-ness. It is made to look like one of Toyota's old rally cars, plus a roll cage and some tarmac tyres, with neigh any improvement bar some coilovers. It also has never been raced, and likely never will be. I'm sure some of the money that goes toward marketing those douchey "underground" events could go towards putting in some wrench time on the xD, making a worthwhile power, chassis and better suspension upgrade, and campaigning it at even say the X games or some form of grassroots motorsport event.
That's my point. Simple as that. The Fiesta doesn't get a 100% pass either, It should have had a snail, and awd. That however, is another post for another thread.
