to be fair he may just be sticker shocked by the outlay a proper flexfuel kit is when OFT can get you to E85 power for $400 used on the member's classifieds.

I love my OFT but keep in mind, the cheaper way comes with two drawbacks, one more an inconvenience (procedure to switch maps between fuel sources) and the other a potential disaster. The OFT method is not dynamic enough to account for variances in corn juice. One bad batch of corn juice can cause significant variances in trims, or worse, knock and potential for engine damage. N

OP do remember the usefulness of flex setups carry over into FI if you really are serious.. the $2k is nothing for the peace of mind and convenience of a true flexfuel setup is.

I run tactrix/openflash for my wrx with both petrol and E85 tunes (shoutout to brandon at XPT/Nastysoc) and one time had such a bad batch of E85 that I thought I was going to detonate my engine before I could even limp it home to jack it up and drain out. Never again did I go E85 on opensource tuning for FI.. not as much to lose with lower power levels or N/A but I was pushing that little EJ pretty aggressively, so I wouldn't risk it. Not on a subaru engine as finicky as the 205.

and when I FI this machine after the drivetrain warranty is up, I will be running a flex for that very reason..
