You nailed it though that nobody ever went much into the race scene with any of these combo deals. They tend to be a highly hyped flash in the pan and then are cast aside when the companies part ways (which they always do eventually) even though some of the products were great.
Mitsubishi, after they parted ways with Diamler Chrysler, just started going horribly wrong. The 1st generation of the Eclipse/Talon were amazing. The second gen, even though heavier were still amazing cars. Owned both a GS-T and Talon TSi. Shepherd Racing, Road Race Eng. and a couple other tuners did amazing things with the platforms. They were Mitsus best seller in America. They practically sold themselves. You had a model for every buyer. GS and RS versions for the guy or gal who just wanted a nice car but didn't care about performance. A GS-T for those who couldn't afford the GS-X but still wanted the extra power and that beautiful 4G63. Then the "Spyder" for those who wanted a convertible and guess what!? You could have it with the engine of your liking! Then in 2000 after 2 years of putting out awesome looking concept cars with ideas of AWD and turbo lusciousness, they release the Tyrese Fast and Furious bound FWD POS!! It has been down hill from there.

Mitsubishi doesn't even seem like they are trying anymore. The Evo 8 and 9 were amazing. The X kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. My father purchased an Evo 8 the month they were released. It was like driving around in a Ferrari. Everyone would stop and gawk, ask questions about it and take pictures. The car was a pure race car made for the road. Limited nannies, no cruise control, just bare bones and fun! Loved that car. Then the X came out and the car seemed to lose it's personality. Tried too hard to make it a luxury sports car even though it was down on luxury. My father went and test drove one because he was thinking of getting one. He walked out of the dealership and said "It's not an Evo". That was in 2008, fast forward 7 years and the Evo X looks exactly the same with 0 changes. Nada, zip, zilch. The rest of their line up is garbage too! You couldn't pay me to drive any of their other vehicles!
