Don't be stupid. Subaru finally broke 200k for the ENTIRE YEAR of 2009, and they're still making a profit.

For 2009, Subaru sold 216,652 vehicles, up 15 percent from 187,699 in 2008.

Scion isn't meant to sell in the hundreds of thousands. They don't even produce enough to keep up with that kind of demand.

Scion Division reported sales of 57,961 units for the year.

While obviously 2009 Scion didn't sell a ton of units in 2005 and 2006 tC's alone sold more than 75,000 units:

2005 74,415 2006 79,125

Again, it's not about actual numbers sold, it's about how many are produced vs how many sell.
