OEM or not, part of the process of a car manufacturer is sourcing and testing the parts from 3rd party suppliers to meet/exceed testing standards, which usually is at least the base warranty period.

OEM is great from a marketing perspective, but if no real testing was done on the lights other than in a controlled environment, there may be design or manufacturing flaws that show up after time.

It's why the first batch of stock taillights leaked, it was an overtorque situation with the factory install that could not have been replicated under any condition other than regular usage by end users.
