I tend to agree with independent tests.
An intakes primary function is to supply CLEAN air to the motor.
Since the air cleaner is for cleaning air, a larger surface area reusable filter means less dirt, less cleaning, as long as it does not restrict more than stock.
I got the original TRD for that reason, not that the team reported extra ponies because of the intake (wouldn't the ribs in the intake hose cause turbulence, slow down volume ? or not).
