A new engine won't happen unless people keep buying the cars. The cost for the car was built to be cheap. Price of the S2000 new was 35k. Brother paid 37 at a dealer back in 05. FRS msrp is 25k. Would you want +10k msrp on base price?
Not saying that this new design isn't adding but a better engine would require more sales
But remember, it's winter. People aren't buying a light rwd coupe right now.
