Im going to change it at 1k (just an case for the breaking period) and then just change it every 5-6k interval...

Yeah before the standard was 3k but now days most cars go a full year without a change. Toyota(subaru) uses 7.5k intervals.. if in doubt check your manual its got a list of exactly when you should do it even based on driving conditions and locations
