Upping the same tire and wheel combo from 215/7 to 245/8 adds 5 pounds per corner using the weights on tirerack. I'm not sure if the extra weight is worth the potential gain in traction.
Especially since the autox runs are short and there's at least 15 minutes between runs usually, so the tires may not get up to or stay at the temp needed for best grip.
