I am really glad it did not happen a couple of weeks earlier. long road trip in europe.
Drove in the alps, nurburgring & autobahn.

I am installing a brand new oem crank, BC rods and new bearings.
Got the block inspected, its still ok.

So what caused the cover to come loose?
