We don't have those intersections in Europe. We have roundabouts. There are rules there too, and they don't apply in real life either. The most effective way to traverse an european roundabout is to look as you are oblivious of your surroundings and just plow straight into it. Toilet style.
Courtesy is dangerous. My offensive-defensive driving technique has not failed me yet.
