I bet they got that number from Mazda, it's the power rating for the current SkyActiv 2.0 in the 3.

I would be surprised if they aren't able to get at least current NC Miata level of 167hp out of an updated or Miata-specific SkyActiv 2.0.

They really should drop a retuned-for-high-end-power 2.5 in there though as an option. It would be fantastic to have a reasonably-priced minimalist 240hp 2400-lb sports car on the market...
how can a big company come out and say things like "not sure where they got that number"
