A: The power figures are not confirmed. They are lifted from the specs from the current "3" and that engine also makes it's power at 6k and makes 150Tqs at 4k rpm. That's the same amount of Torque as the FRS engine at 2k rpms lower. It also does this on regular unleaded. The 3 also weigh 2850lbs and gets 41mpg with a Manual Transmission. Remember, part of the "ethos" of the Miata is the word "economical".
B: "A" doesn't really matter anyway because a car that'll be lighter than the FRS and make the same torque which would be quite nice around town as well as being able to pump regular unleaded instead of premium. However, I doubt they will just drop in the engine from the Mazda 3 'as is'. It will probably make more power, it will probably require premium.
But, if they DO just use the 155hp/150tq engine from the Mazda 3 I think that would be just fine. It's a goddamn miata, not a muscle car.
Edit: C: They're not trying to make 155hp w/ a 2.0L engine. That's a bit myopic. They're trying to hit CAFE standards; emission and mileage. 41mpg with a manual transmission on a 2850lb car with regular unleaded (@ 13:1 CR) while meeting emissions regs is a rather impressive task.
