Don't want to sound like a whiner, but I have a distinct weight disadvantage to start with, so I'm definitely at the back of the pack

Yes, fastest up front on pole.
I agree, it could be more fun switching it, but that's the format they usually run so didn't want to mess with things. There is probably a weight disadvantage but the driver mod helps quite a bit too.
A few last pieces of advice:
- if you have a helmet, bring it or you'll need to wear the supplied ones plus hairnets.
- wear a soft, cushiony sweater or sweatshirt, helps with damping on the back. They have overalls you can wear on top of your clothes also, it is optional. You will smell like fumes afterward so dress accordingly.
- Play fair - there is a bit of rubbing sometimes in order to keep your line, but don't bump someone out of the way to move up a spot
- Slow down for the yellow flags/lights. They suggest walking pace but you can go faster than that, just not through the front straight at speed though (they'll be watching you there). And if you slow down too much, you'll just create a bigger gap to those ahead of you. No passing under yellows at all.
- You may end up with a slower or faster kart, this is just the luck of the draw, deal with it. If you get a kart with issues, make sure you pull in during qualy to have them swap/fix it otherwise you'll be stuck with it for the whole race (or have to pit during race).
- Lastly, let's all have fun above anything else. Yes, there may be rivalries but keep it fair and everyone will enjoy the evening.
- Maybe we can all grab a bite somewhere later!
