Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, and Pinecrest are all nice but expensive. South Miami, Palmetto Bay, and Cutler Bay are a bit more affordable. I would classify them pretty much in that order. They all have nicer and less nice areas. And all are located East of US1. The heaviest traffic is northbound and eastbound in the mornings, and reverses in the evening commute. The Turnpike causes big choke points so try to either be against traffic or live on the same side of where you work. Traffic can be a big issue so choose wisely. It takes my partner between 45m & 2hrs to commute 16 miles depending on the time she leaves for work. She goes northbound. Try doing the commute a few times before commiting to a location.
