It really is, its not so much rampant, but rather inflated, yep the stats are there, but based on some of the things Iread about what happens in other countries, its not so bad. There are some places that you just dont go to, but thats in every country as well.
as for the Toyota fortuner/Hilux story, because they are the staple vehicle of most people in JHB, 10 on every street and we border with a few african states that love these cars more than a fat kid loves cake, they are a bit high risk.
My ex manager is dutch, and on his first visit before moving here, he requested a personal armed guard due to the news etc,that they got in holland, and now he says after 5 years, its all mostly BS, no more armed gaurd, and now man has seen more of SA in these 5 years than I have in my entire life, doesnt intend going back to holland anytime soon.
the crime does not bother me, but rather the political climate and our slow decline into 3rd world status is a much more frightening outlook.
