Unfortunately if you have crossthreaded it and can't get it back in the only solution I know of is to some how get a tap into that hole and see if you can clean the threads up. That almost certainly will require removing the transmission to get access to the hole. The few times I've heard of it happening required a new transmission casing to get it fixed, which is expensive but not as expensive as you might imagine.
