Judging by the fact that a suggestion for BC Racing is better than stock in your opinion, feel free and spend your $1k to get BC Racing coilovers.
Just keep in mind several things:
1) coilovers, like shocks, should be rebuilt every 2-3 years (depending on mileage and road conditions), much like how shocks of any kind should be replaced... but...
2) there are two types of coilover makers: the ones that sell you a generic replacement shock, and those that actually take your existing shock body to revalve/rebuild.
3) coilovers costs more to maintain than spring/shock combo. If $1k is your budget limit, I would highly suggest you to look elsewhere as they are not at all a "budget" modification.
But hey, go cheap all you want.
