I have a strict pecking order to my fleet:
One DD "Toaster" for going to work. Stays stock and gets fixed by mechanic. Amortized to scrap value over ten years and receives no love. Currently the FRS.
One "Toy" driver that is on the road for weekends and car shows. Currently a 1967 MGB GT.
One "Toy Project" car in the shop that takes care of fabrication itch. Currently a 1973 Volvo P1800 with Miata chassis and Ford 302.
I have been in the car hobby long enough to tell you that after about year 15, the untouched solid survivors become the most desired and valuable. Just look into Honda CRX or Datsun 240Z or 1990 Mustangs for examples of cars that are now cool and sought after as time-capsules. As far as true collector value, subtract 40-45 years from the current year, and that will give you the era of the cars that will be sought out by people looking to relive their youth.
