Taken at face value your definition makes pretty much every car a "toy" for someone. I suppose that is very well true.
Extreme example, a family of 7 with two large dogs may need a Suburban to get around together probably has no need to be buying a Prius, because it is a toy, unless there is another need it meets. (Dad commutes 80 miles a day solo, buys a Prius, or an FR-S for that matter, as a more practical solution, so its not really a toy).
So, in the end, like most all things automotive, its situational.

I consider the FR-S a toy. The number of doors pretty much makes it a toy because most normal people would buy a 4 door if they have a kid. I've owned 5 4doors prior to my FR-S and zero 2 doors. I sacrificed my normal practicality for fun. That means toy for me.
My daughter loves it, too. Also means toy.
