He's been doing it for a looong time and we all got a message on facebook this week to get ready for spring season. I was planning on going coilovers, but I think I may just invest in tires, fluids, and event fees(he will be able to get those reduced for us.). I'm afraid if I lower it the axles won't hold up.

Axles aren't really too much of a worry unless you're:

a. Running lots of power
b. Running lots of grip
c. Slamming your car to the ground

Or any combo of the 3. If the car is kept at moderate power levels and the grip levels aren't crazy and the ride height is kept reasonable, you shouldn't have any real concerns. Especially with just normal driving.

If you're going to drift the car, then the same applies. I haven't had any issues since my first axle that went but my car was a bit lower and more grippy. I just raised the car a tad and ran a higher rear tire pressure and since then, no issues. These axles have been going for over 10k miles too with loads of track time.
