The very reason that the police and school should be investigating is because they are trained and authorized to do it. They are also not emotionally involved so can act based on facts and evidence not "he looked nervous".
The law is for the people yes, upholding it is not each individuals right. Pretty sure that vigilantism is also illegal in most States for very good reason. The OP's actions could result in somebody hart at worst and destroy any chance of the proper people doing any form of investigation at best.
You obviously have a lot of contempt for authority but it is authority that keeps the peace not individuals that decide what is right or wrong.
You totally missed the point of the definition. The very act of stalking is a crime not the intent or reason for the stalking. OP has repeatedly said he has been watching this guy and went as far as hiding his wife in the back of a car! Stalking!!!

Once again the OP has presented no solid evidence that there was even an act of vandalism much less that his "suspect" did it.
Dude really?

The OP is not following this guy to his house, or anywhere actually. Parking down the street and watching your car is not a crime, and it's not stalking. The OP has absolutely no reason to be concerned.

I've thought a few of his comments were a little off (the he knew I was there for him type comments, or the busted when he still has no proof), but what his wife and him are doing is not against the law. The mentality where it's up to the police to investigate, and the school to handle leads me back to this place of spells and fairies people must be from.

The police have zero time to investigate door dings, they'd laugh at you after you left if you asked them to. The school may have video cameras, but who knows if they're on all the time, if they work, or they're even pointed at this kids car.

If the OP wants to stake out his car, it's up to him. I say if you're going to do that though, you had better be filming it so you can have proof. Then take that proof to the police/school, and not handle it yourself.

Me, I've personally learned over time. When I got out of the military I moved to downtown Baltimore to live with some friends. The very first night, someone broke my window and looted my car. The car doors were unlocked because I left nothing in the car worth stealing, but they broke the window anyway.

People there had told me that groups of guys walk up and down the street breaking into cars at night around midnight. The next night I decided to sleep in my car, .. with my .45.

That night I saw about 20+ people walking up and down the street checking cars. I couldn't believe that these punks rolled with that many people, but I guess there's safety in numbers. Anyway, I figured that I didn't have enough bullets so when they got close enough, I got out, I put my gun into my pants and made sure that they saw the gun and that this was my car. They never touched my car again. Again, this is not a recommendation, don't do this at home! My stupid antics were very dangerous and I shouldn't have done them.

Moral of the story is, that what I did was pretty extreme, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with what this OP is doing by staking out his car. There's a big difference between watching your car, and stalking a person.

The only suggestion I would make would be for him to get a video camera.

The OP was saying that all the "damage" to his car was deliberate vandalism not just simple bad mannered door dings.
Tah was just addressing that aspect of the claim.
There are inconsiderate jerks that will bang their doors against your car everyplace. The sad part is that many may not even realize they did it so leaving notes or chasing them is pointless as they will simply think it wasn't them.
I get scared to death every time a SUV full of kids pull in bedside me as the doors can open at velocities I would not believe possible and kids have no concept of what can happen if they fling them open too far.
Who knows if it was deliberate, the OP can't say it for sure, but it happening multiple times in a week, with 1 of those being on the hood is definitely suspect.

I just feel that he should get proof, and then seek justice. As you said, there are tons of inconsiderate people who will ding your car out of carelessness, instead of spite.
