Maybe, especially for turbo applications, the R154 5 speed might be the best solution.
I read they are fine til 600-700hp and are really cheap (like $1-1.5k)
Not sure about the final drive, or whether a diff gearing change would be necessary.
6th gear on our boxes is just an overdrive. I bet on most tracks that 6th is never used, so switching to a properly geared 5 speed on a turbo car (where the wider spacing between gears might be wanted) might be a worthwhile option.
