Just FYI, Subies weren't always AWD, so it's not impossible that Subaru might release a lightweight RWD car.
However, in the US, and I guess in Australia, Subaru's brand identity is inextricably linked with AWD. This is why there's a chance that: 1. Subaru's version (possibly 2 years away or so, according to that MT article) might have AWD, or 2. There will be no Subaru version in the US or Aus.
Either way, this car is coming to the US in one guise or another, and for that, we should be expectant.
