Yes, there are a few E85 threads posted here. Mobil1 has actually recommended their Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 in E85 applications originally calling for xW-20. That's stuff is thicker than RT6 though so I don't know about that.

There's a pretty wide variety of E85 uoa results posted here as well (very good and not so good), probably reflecting the wide variety of tunes. Not knowing anything about your specific application, I'd probably go with Red Line or Motul 300V xW-20, or Pennzoil Ultra 10W-30.

As I approach 300k miles, I am admittedly looking at 5W30 Pento Superformance III or Liquimoly Top Tec 4200 5W30.

Why? These are both VW 507.00, with the highest level of piston cleanliness required. Also I am merely spec'd for SM 5W30. Piston cleanliness has been my issue in the past.

OP, Amsoil Signature Series 5W20 and Pennzoil Platinum Ultra w/Pure Plus 5W20 are very good motor oils.
Hey stalker!

That run on Motul X-Cess 5W-40 was after I saw a very long oci from a Stage IV WRX uoa posted on bitog (~8,000 miles IIRC) and picked some up from my buddies at AZP Installs. A lot of prior runs on Motul were purchased with Subaru bucks (Subaru Mastercard rewards), but that program is dead now so no more free oil.

Running ancient API SM PU 5W-40 in my ancient Foz because Pennzoil was good to me and sent me free oil in the past. I'm not brand loyal though and have run many different brands; Motul, Pennzoil, Castrol, Amsoil lots of different Mobil1's, Red Line, etc. I change my mind every two weeks about what oil I want to run next.
