I have not tried the phone will driving yet but see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Also, for grounding the e brake wire, it is much easier to lift the boot on the e brake itself unplug and ground on the 10mm bolt near by. Also remove mt shifter boot to get to bolt.
I don't think this is what you want to do. You are really just trying to ground the E-brake signal going into the HU, not the signal to the entire car. Grounding the wire on the E-brake will tell the ECU that the parking brake is on and will make your dash indicator light up...not what you want.

The E-brake bypass is for movies. The VSS bypass is for all the other restrictions that the HU imposes while moving. I'm not familiar with the implications of the NAV update, but this is how it works for the 2013 BRZ/FRS.

Another thing. The accepted way to do the VSS bypass on most(I think the pioneers may operate differently) Toyotas is to provide a pulse to the HU rather than to ground the wire. The reason for this is that in many HUs are smart enough to know what you are doing. If it looses VSS information but the GPS detects motion, it will lock you out of the speed-sensitive features after a couple minutes. The pulse must be tuned to be a low enough frequency to tell the HU that the vehicle speed is slower than the 3 MPH threshold which will leave the features unlocked. Someday I'll do a write-up on what I did(I used a 555 timer to produce the pulse).

Some HU's may work differently but I'm basing this on what the Fujisu-Ten unit does in my 13' BRZ.
