I can't give any info on performance increase. But, I have heard both the TRD D shaped exhaust side by side with the TRD Release 1.0 4 tip exhaust. Both with the TRD intake. The "D" exhaust is clearly louder and has a deeper tone than the "4 tip". That's indoor at the dealer at start up, idle and revved up. I did not hear them under load.
If performance is equal I'd stick with my "4 tip". My gut feeling is that the "D" is louder because it's less restrictive. But I have no data to back that up.
