Packaging is going to dictate how big, and where the duct goes. CFD, tunnel time, or other aero studies will let you know if it's too big, or too small.
Getting the air out is the key.

I need to look up what the fender liner and venting system looks like on vehicles that have functional vents. Then we'd have a good concept of how we could apply that concept to our cars.
