You gain nothing from trying to school other drivers on the road —everyone thinks they know best—, and it can trigger the sort of behavior you were a victim of.
Also, it can be hard to see what finger you're using from outside your car..
When another driver is being a ****, or acting like he's annoyed at something you did, I have learnt that it's best not to address or acknowledge them. No eye contact, no hand gestures, no flashing your high beams.
